Mon 14th Dec 2015 - Rooney Anand joins Wm Morrison board as senior independent director
Rooney Anand joins Wm Morrison board as senior independent director: Supermarket Wm Morrison, which has replaced its chief executive and changed chairman this year, has reported that Greene King chief executive Rooney Anand will join its board as a non-executive director from 1 January. Anand will become Morrison’s senior independent director. Anand has been chief executive of Greene King since 2005 and recently pushed through the company’s £770m takeover of its UK rival Spirit Pub Group. Andrew Higginson, chairman, of Morrison said: “Rooney had the vision at the start of the credit crunch to reinvent Greene King as a branded food based pub retailer. He is a widely admired and successful Plc CEO. His experience in retail, in [fast-moving consumer goods] and in turning around the fortunes of a major retail business, will all be put to good use at Morrisons. With the recent appointments of Irwin Lee, Belinda Richards, Paula Vennells and Neil Davidson, I am also pleased to say that Rooney’s appointment completes the process of renewing and rebuilding the Board of Morrisons.”

Experienced coffee shop operators publish book: Experienced coffee shop operators Andrew and Claire Bowen have written a book to help people thinking of setting up or running their own business. The Bowens, who have experience as both franchisees and owners, have published The Daily Grind. The book includes information about how to select the best location, how to choose what to sell to generate the most profit and marketing tactics to beat the competition. There is also a supporting website with additional resources. The Bowens told Propel: “We have run our own coffee shops for the last ten years and have written the book after helping many other coffee shop owners with their businesses.” The Daily Grind is available as a book and for Kindle on Amazon.
