Fri 15th Jul 2016 - Laine Pub Company to open new state-of-the-art brewery
Laine Pub Company to open new state-of-the-art brewery: The Laine Pub Company, which operates four microbreweries amongst its 48 strong London and Brighton pub estate and is backed by Luke Johnson, is set to upscale its craft brewing capability with the opening of a state-of-the-art brewery capable of brewing more than 30,000 pints a week. Located in the Sussex Downs on the ancient Roman road that ran between London Bridge and Chichester, the new brewery will create and distribute beer to Laine’s London and Brighton pub estates as well as to off-trade. The 65 hectolitre (40 BBLs) plant will begin beer production under the Laine Brewing banner in September. “Our gifted brewers have been producing craft beer through our microbreweries and in collaboration with third parties for some time and we have been consistently pleased with the beer’s reception,” said chief executive Gavin George. “With our hugely discerning customers and staff as advocates, we believe we can create an exciting range of modern craft beers in keg, cask, can and bottle that will excite drinkers throughout our entire pub estate and beyond.” Laine’s greatly enhanced beer business will be led by Jack Hibberd, previously commercial director at Truman’s Brewery, who will work with the Laine brewing team to develop beers that reflect the quality and eclecticism of Laine’s pubs. He said: “I was amazed by the individuality, creativity and independent spirit of Laine’s pubs when I came here and I see it as our task to deliver a range of beers that compliments these engaging drinking environments. The permanent and experimental lines produced by the new brewery and the four microbreweries will be original, creative, high quality and great tasting.” Laine Brewing will also take on responsibility for ensuring the quality of beer dispense throughout the pub estate and for the sale of Laine’s beer products outside of the business. “Moving towards a more vertically integrated business has benefits for a company that operates a retail estate such as ours,” added George. “But the potential for enhancing customer experience through craft beer from this new facility is what we are really excited about.”
