Mon 5th Aug 2019 - Boxpark unveils two new concepts and plans to expand nationwide
Boxpark unveils two new concepts and plans to expand nationwide: Boxpark has unveiled plans to expand nationwide with a further ten sites over the next five years. The expansion will also see the launch of two new concepts – BoxOffice and BoxHall. BoxOffice is a co-working space that will be incorporated into new Boxpark sites. The Boxpark and BoxOffice schemes will be between 50,000 square foot and 150,000 square foot. The developments will feature the traditional Boxpark street food and bars on the ground floor with leisure operators such as virtual reality, cinemas, crazy golf and karaoke on the first floor and between two to four floors of co-working space above. Boxpark will work alongside existing co-working companies on the launch and operation of the new BoxOffice concept. In addition to BoxOffice, Boxpark will also roll out its new food hall concept, BoxHall. These smaller, 10,000 to 20,000 square foot food and beverage destinations will be based on existing sites within city centres across the UK, featuring between six and 12 street food vendors at each site. Boxpark founder and chief executive Roger Wade said: “I’m excited to announce our plans for our new BoxOffice and BoxHall concepts. Boxpark has always been an innovator in the retail and leisure sector and these new formats demonstrate our investment in continuing to evolve both the brand and the sites we build and operate. These two major new innovations will help us secure a further ten sites across the UK over the next five years.”
JD Wetherspoon eyes addition to Glasgow pub estate: JD Wetherspoon is looking to add to its Glasgow pub estate and has lodged a planning application for a historic building in the city. The company wants listed building consent for the A-listed former Tusk and Waverley Tearooms. Formerly owned by G1 Group, the two Shawlands sites closed in 2017 with G1 owner Stefan King claiming Glasgow City Council's strict licensing laws were to blame for their demise. The Moss Side Road building has sat empty since with residents complaining G1 Group had five local venues lying empty. These included Ketchup, The Cell and The Social. An application for planning consent for the former Tusk and Waverley Tearooms has been lodged by Wetherspoon with a decision from councillors expected by Friday, September 26.
