Exclusive – McDonald’s takes control of largest UK franchisee: McDonald’s has taken control of its largest UK franchisee, the Appt Corporation, after completing a deal to buy out founder Atul Pathak’s shares, Propel has learned. The Hanwell-based Appt Corporation was founded in 2003 by Pathak, and has grown to 43 sites, which stretch from north to west London as well as into Berkshire. The business, which opened its first McDonald’s restaurant in Southall, employs more than 3,500 staff and serves more than 30 million customers per year across its estate. A McDonald's spokesman said: “We can confirm McDonald's Restaurants has completed a buy-out of Atul Pathak's shares in Appt Corporation, meaning its restaurants are now owned and operated by McDonald's Restaurants.” Pathak said: “First and foremost, I would like to thank my diverse team of more than 3,500 employees who have been instrumental in our phenomenal growth at Appt Corporation. Without their hard work and dedication, we would not have been able to reach the heights the business has reached. I will be forever grateful for their loyalty and support. I would also like to thank the various communities where my restaurants were based, who allowed me to give something back to the communities and make a small but positive difference. I hope they all continue to grow and flourish for many years to come. I am proud to have raised and donated more than £1m for worthy causes in the last ten years alone. I would like to thank McDonald's. I have had the pleasure of working with the most intelligent, visionary and hard-working people in the industry. It has been wonderful to work with as people and although I would love to mention individual names, I shan't at this time as the list would be endless. Lastly, I would like to thank the ‘Almighty’, my close friends and my family for their everlasting and unconditional support. When I first started this journey, many thought I was taking a step backwards as I already had a successful business and starting with one restaurant did not match to that. However, they believed and supported my vision and in less than 20 years, I am proud to say that I have served as the largest McDonald's franchisee till date in the UK.” According to Propel’s Turnover & Profits Blue Book, Appt Corporation saw turnover reach £128m in the year to the end of 2019, with pre-tax profit standing at £3.42m. McDonald’s features in Propel’s new UK Food and Beverage Franchisor Database, which will be launched next Friday (15 April) and be exclusively available to Premium subscribers. The database be an exhaustive guide to the companies offering a food and beverage franchise in the UK and be updated every two months. The first edition will feature more than 100 companies, providing insight on the offer, locations, cost and other key details. The first edition provides more than 27,000 words of content. Companies can now have an unlimited number of people receive access to Propel Premium for a year for £895 plus VAT – whether they are an operator or a supplier.
