Fri 31st Oct 2025 - Update: Burger King UK surpasses $1bn in system-wide sales, Popeyes to hit 100 sites here
Burger King UK surpasses $1bn in system-wide sales and delivering strong top-line growth, Popeyes to hit 100 sites here: Restaurant Brands International chief executive Joshua Kobza has said Burger King in the UK has surpassed $1bn in system-wide sales and continues to deliver strong top-line growth. Speaking following the company’s third quarter results, Kobza said: “Our international business drives 26% of our operating profit and accelerated meaningfully this quarter. Like-for-like sales increased 6.5% and net restaurant growth of 5.1% drove system-wide sales growth of more than 12%. These results reflect the strength of our global franchise network and the effectiveness of our balanced playbook across menu innovation, marketing, digital and operations. Our like-for-like sales outperformed the industry in several key markets, including France, the UK, Spain and Germany. In September, we expanded our chef collaboration platform to the UK with the launch of the Gordon Ramsay Wagyu burger made with 100% British Wagyu beef, which drove strong engagement and sales. I visited several international markets this quarter, including the UK and China and was impressed to see the consistency of execution and enthusiasm across the system. In the UK, Burger King is now our fifth international business to surpass $1bn in system-wide sales and continues to deliver strong top-line growth, adding more than $115m in sales over just the last 12 months.” Kobza also said Popeyes in the UK will open its 100th restaurant in November – four years after making its debut in east London. He added: “Popeyes is seeing strong traction across EMEA, where the brand now has more than 1,000 restaurants. In Turkey, the team will open 100 restaurants this year, reaching nearly 500 locations by year-end. Both the UK and Turkey are great examples of the brand’s international potential. Popeyes now ranks among the world’s top ten western quick service restaurant brands outside the US and stands out as the only one that’s been growing system-wide sales by more than 35%.” For the three months to 30 September 2025, Restaurant Brands International reported net sales rose 6.9% to $2.45bn. The company’s like-for-like sales grew 4%. Tim Hortons reported like-for-like sales growth of 4.2%. The Canadian brand has been leaning more into food offerings to drive sales and visits at its restaurants. Executives also said an improved iced latte is driving sales of cold drinks, which grew 10% in the quarter. Burger King’s like-for-like sales increased 3.1%. Burger King has focused on restaurant renovations and marketing based on core menu items like the Whopper to revive sales in the US. The remodelled restaurants are paying off for franchisees as well, which is lifting operators’ profitability, according to Burger King US president Tom Curtis.
